Taliate tallies 230-point win

Taliate, shown by Casey Green for Shannon Lamb, Lake Kiowa, Tex., claimed the PCCHA Core Balance Derby Classic-Challenge championship and $11,000 with an unassailable 230 points. Reyning Cats, under Russ Westfall for Jerry and Suzanne Rava, Paso Robles, Calif., scored 227 for the reserve championship, while Ruby Rita and Grant Setnicka took third with 223 points for Robert Thigpen Jr., Chilton, Tex.

Taliate LTE $184,054, a 5-year-old gelding sired by Metallic Cat and bred by Linda Holmes, is the first performer out of Reytaliate, a half-sister to Little Jackson Cat LTE $220,298. Green first showed Taliate to place seventh in the 2017 NCHA Futurity. Earlier this year, Taliate won the Cattlemen’s Classic Challenge to earn his first working championship.

Six-year-old Reyning Cats LTE $108,204, bred by Jimmy Kemp, earned her richest individual check as seventh-placed finalist with Westfall in the 2017 NCHA Derby. Most recently, the Dual Rey daughter placed fourth in the 2019 Augusta Classic/Challenge Open Finals.

Ruby Rita LTE $75,306, a 5-year-old Metallic Cat daughter bred by owner Robert Thigpen, is a full sister to 4-year-old Metallic Rita LTE $41,747, who Thigpen showed to win the 2019 NCHA Super Stakes Amateur championship. The pair also placed as finalists in the NCHA Futurity Amateur, and Setnicka showed her to place in the Abilene Spectacular.

Setnicka also showed PCCHA Derby Classic Challenge high-scoring qualifier (449 points) Reysin Kittens to place fourth in the Finals with 220.5 points. Six-year-old Reysin Kittens LTE $233,481, sired by Dual Rey and bred and owned by Frank and Bonnie Martin, Las Vegas, Nev., won the 2017 PCCHA Derby Open with Jaime Snider, as well as the 2018 PCCHA Futurity 5/6 Non-Pro and Non-Pro Limited with Bonnie Martin. Earlier this year, Martin and Reysin Kittens won the Arbuckle Mountain 5/6 Amateur Limited.
