Applicant / Judge Education

Annual Judge Continuing Education

The NCHA Judges Department is committed to programs that foster continuous improvement for certified judges and increase NCHA members' understanding of the judging process.  As part of that commitment, Online Continuing Education (OCE) is required for all certified judges.  This education provides a valuable opportunity for certified judges to refresh their knowledge, enhance their skills and stay up to date with current judging practices.

OCE is a comprehensive program designed to address any changes in rules, regulations, or judging criteria that may have occurred since your initial certification. It will also provide a platform for judges to exchange experiences, discuss best practices, and learn from one another.

OCE Requirement

All approved judges, regardless of rating level, must complete Online Continuing Education (OCE) each year to maintain active judging status.

  • OCE is required every year.
  • OCE must be completed no later than March 31 (the end of the first quarter).
  • Completion of OCE satisfies the annual activity requirement for all judges.

Biennial Testing Requirement

Every other year, the OCE program will include a formal testing component.

  • Judges must achieve a minimum score of 75% on the biennial test.
  • Judges who do not achieve a passing score will be required to attend an in‑person workshop as directed by the Director of Judges.
  • Judges who fail to attend the required workshop in a timely manner will be reduced one (1) rating level until the workshop requirement is fulfilled.
